A Hobbit kind of weekend.

If you haven't met my brother, Matthew, then you probably aren't aware of his love and creativity when it comes to costumes and dressing up. Every Halloween, you can bet that he will most likely be doing something elaborate, and always hand made. Each year, I am blown away by his creativity and talent. (Seriously, why didn't I get any of those genes?!)

So, for his daughter's first birthday, it came as no surprise that he had a Hobbit themed party, to which he was Gandalf and Melody was a little Bilbo Baggins. And, forgive me for not being a huge Lord of the Rings fan, but his wife, Katie, was....an....elf? Yes, I think that's right. An elf. Like, Legolas? Is that the name of the guy Orlando Bloom played?

Anyway.

Here they are, in all their glory.

That's right, he sewed all of those costumes, himself. The hat included!

Then, for all of the other people (cough, me, cough) who were lame and didn't dress up, they had beards to be put on so we could all partake in the Hobbit shenanigans. It was grand.

And apparently beards are quite the turn-on for me and The Dizzle. Who knew.

Here are a few more pictures from the party...

Happy birthday, Melody!

I can't believe a year has gone by already. What a crazy, jam-packed year it's been, eh? It was really good to be able to go home for the weekend and see friends and family.

Other than the occasional awkward conversation of::

"Hey, Michelle! Congrats on the new job, that's so great!"

"Oh, uh..yeah, that's not happening anymore."

"Oh no! Why???"

"Umm.. because, uhh... I forgot to bring batteries to class?"

Silence.

So yeah, everything else was great. ;) I got to spend a lot of time with Fasha too. In fact, he came out with us Saturday night with some friends and had 3/4 of a beer! For a man that never drinks, that was quite the feat, I must say.

The Dizzle and I got back last night after 8 hours of driving and went straight to bed. We were exhausted. And yet.... I was up at 5:00am this morning and couldn't go back to sleep. So you know what I did? I went to the gym. It's crazy talk, I tell you. But I think I'm on to something. Today is a new day and a new week. I feel refreshed and renewed and I'm ready to conquer this next chapter of my life. Can I get a hoorah?

Hope your weekend was fabulous!

xoxo

  7. Wow, that's pretty awesome! What creativity! I also thought that the "insta-beards" were a great idea, too, because there are always people who forgo costumes at parties! Also, thought you handled the work questions really well -- way to just let people know, even if it feels kind of awkward sometimes. I feel like I would have been like, "Oh, thanks, SUBJECT CHANGE!" So kudos for being brave!
