These past few weeks have been a roller coaster of emotions for me. Actually, scratch that, these past few months have been a roller coaster of emotions for me. This year, by far, has been the most wild and crazy and trying and enjoyable and confusing and exciting year of my life.

Let's take a stroll down memory lane, shall we?

January - Fresh from a month in Spain, we arrived in Italy and spent 20 amazing days in this beautiful country. I mean, shoot, we brought in the New Year with thousands of people in ROME. It still blows my mind.

February - I fell in love with Thailand. Hard.

March - I spent 3 weeks traveling across Vietnam via train. Looking back on past blog posts, I didn't have too many good things to say about that place. But today? I'd snap my fingers and be there in a heartbeat if I could. Funny how that works, huh?

April - After 5 months apart, we reunited with family in Amsterdam (Loved. So much.). Followed by a quick trip to London.

May - We officially set foot in San Francisco with 2 suitcases to our name. We had no idea where we would live, we had no idea what jobs we would get, and we had no idea just how hard acclimating back to "American Life" would be.

June/July/August - To be honest, those months whizzed by for me. I got a job I thought I wanted as an Assistant Buyer for Pottery Barn. We moved into our very first apartment together. Things were supposed to be perfect and great and this was exactly what we wanted and hoorah!

But then, as it turned out, it wasn't.

I spent many nights crying, while The Dizzle hugged me tight, wondering what I was doing with my life. Wondering why we weren't traveling anymore. Wondering why I didn't feel satisfied. Wondering how I managed to, yet again, find myself in an office job, staring at a computer for 8 hours a day. Wondering if I was always going to feel this confused. Wondering if we made a mistake coming home. Wondering if we should just take off for Thailand again and never look back. Wondering why we had to pay $14 for a salad when we were eating $1.50 Pad Thai just a few months before.

Let's just say, a lot of negative thoughts kept swirling around in my head, and add to that a layer of guilt for not just appreciating my situation. I had a roof over my head. I had a wonderful man in my life. I could afford a $14 salad (Sort of). So why was I being so ungrateful?

September - I told myself to stop my crying and do something about it. You don't like your situation, Michelle? Change it! Boom. New goggles for life. I started eating better. I started working out. I lost 8 pounds. I spent more time with friends. I began to appreciate San Francisco and take advantage of the fact that we were living in one of the most popular cities in the world!

And then one day, early in September, I decided to research a job that had always piqued my interest. I decided that a life in an office didn't have to be my reality. I could change that.

Lo and behold, I saw this company was hiring!

I had no idea what the qualifications were, but I decided to send in my resume and complete the 45 minute online assessment. This assessment asked me a lot of questions in regards to my personality. Am I outgoing? Am I a people-person? Am I friendly? Do I like adventure? Do I like to travel? How do I handle difficult customers?

45 minutes later....I hit Submit and crossed my fingers.

One HOUR later - My phone rings.

It's them! They're calling! I have to run outside and answer this call, stat!

So I did. And there, on a San Francisco street corner, I had a phone interview.

And it went well because they invited me to their group interview! Hoorah!

Group interview, done. One-on-one interview, done.

And now. The waiting game.

I did the best I could do and that's all I could ask of myself, really. The point was, I was doing something about my situation and that alone turned my frowns upside down. No more tears for me! I was being proactive, damnit!

Ten days later...

My phone rings on a Sunday evening around 7:00pm. It was a San Francisco number and I just knew. I knew it was them!

As my stomach did a front flip, side-kick, round house combo, I answered the phone, "Hello?"

"Hi Michelle, it's Frank, calling from (insert an up-and-coming, amazing, and innovative airline that I'm not quite sure yet if I'm allowed to publicly mention). I just wanted to call and congratulate you for being chosen to be an In-Flight Team Member!"

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

^^^But, like, said in a completely professional way, of course^^^

After hanging up the phone, there was a lot of hugging, a lot of squealing, a lot of phone calls, and then of course, a lot of happy dances. Because, as you all know, I am a seasoned, professional Zumba dancer and when I have something to celebrate, I bust out the moves.

Ladies and gentleman, I give you: America's newest FLIGHT ATTENDANT!!!!!

(in the most high-tech, high-def, and professional motion picture setting ever)

I couldn't be more excited for this new journey to come (I think I made that pretty clear from my dancing). I am just so grateful for this opportunity and truly feel it could lead to something amazing. I feel as though I've finally found a way to combine my love for travel and people into one! No more boring desk job for me. I have realized that is not for me. It never was and it never will be.

I'm counting down the days until training starts on October 14! Whoo hoo!

xoxo

  8. My best friend was a flight attendant straight out of college. She loved it, she was based out of LAX and did domestic routes only (so most nights she got to go home). Good luck memorizing tons of airport codes! (PS. Your June/July/August life really hit home with me, I lived a year of that in 2011. Work is too big apart of your life to be unhappy). Congrats for making the change.

  12. So awesome! That definitely suits you! You should talk to Jenny at planepretty.com. She has been a flight attendant for quite a few years. Also, how does the car play into this? Wouldn't you need a car even less if you will always be traveling?

    1. So actually I need a way to get to the airport within 2 hours, and I didn't want to have to rely on public transportation bc that could be cutting it way too close! :/ Plus training is for 5 weeks at this place that doesn't even have public training access, so this will definitely be a big help now :)
