Word of Advice.

When you are planning to leave for Koh Samui, Thailand in less than 24 hours
it may do you some good to not watch the movie, "The Impossible."
Which is a real life story about a family vacationing in Thailand when the largest tsunami in history hit back in 2004.

Do you see where I'm getting at with this?

Prepare to see a lot of wonderful Thai beaches in the beginning of the movie, where you can easily imagine you and your Boo frolicking hand in hand, while drinking a pina colada in the other, having the time of your life.

Then BAM.

A ginormous wave comes out of nowhere and wipes you away!

Let's just say there was one little half Asian who did not listen to this advice last night and sat wide-eyed with a death-like grip on her partner's leg for about an hour and a half.

However, if you're not planning a trip to Thailand {or any other SE Asian country} in the near future,
then please do watch this riveting and amazing story.

Also.

One more word of advice, if I may.

When you are in Rome and you happen to stumble across a tiny little book store and see an Italian magazine from 1990 with a giant picture of Harrison Ford on the cover, do purchase that for 3 Euro and plan to have it on your future coffee table for all the world to see and admire.

The end.
See you in Thailand, friends.

xoxo

  1. We're actually planning on watching that soon but right now we're watching a documentary with live footage and interviews with survivors. Also a bad idea since we're leaving for Thailand in a month. I'll be checking the tide every morning.

  2. Just watching the trailer for it made me cry. I don't know if I would be able to survive the whole movie!!!
(and have a safe trip to Thailand!! I have recently fallen in love with Thai food, so I'm super jealous! Because clearly the food is the most important part of the traveling... duh.)

  3. I just saw the preview for that when I went to see Les Mis. I also walked out of Les Mis, which is another word of advice you might consider adding to this lovely post. However if you're into listening to dying cats..have at it. I digress...I haven't planned a trip to Thailand, so I guess I should watch it :)

The Harrison Ford magazine purchase made me giggle, and a little jealous. Now that is a conversation piece! Hehe :)

  8. you are not allowed to see movies like this before you go somewhere. when i was little, i saw the movie lake placid, while i was there (my genius room mate's idea, never let a 10 year old pick a movie) and freaked out the next day when my mom took me to skate on the lake.

  15. Isn't buying an Italian ANYTHING with circa 1990 Harrison Ford on it a good idea? Especially if there's something referencing Sean Connery on it as well. That's just good life advice man.

  16. I bet Harrison Ford would have escaped the Tsunami...while rescuing the long lost Buddha of Koh Samui.
