I lost a dear one tonight. It was unexpected and I thought we were in the clear.
But I knew. I knew deep down it couldn't have lasted forever.
The way her coloring got so dim and lifeless.
The way she seemed to have the life shrivel right out from under her.
So tonight...I looked at her long and hard and I said my goodbyes.
Rest peacefully, little one.
You fought a good fight and got me through 6 months of training and a strong 26.2 mile finish.
No matter who comes along after you, know that you were always my first and forever favorite.

P.S. To all you feet haters out there: This post must have been traumatizing for you. And for that, I apologize. You may close out and never look at this deformity again.
xoxo
I really can't deal with this, argh! Does this happen when you run?! I need to stop running.
ReplyDeleteWill a new one just grow back..? I can't stop looking at it!
as sorry as i am for your loss, i hate feet. this has traumatized me.
ReplyDeleteOMG first of all I am SO sorry. Second of all I was worried about this THE ENTIRE RUN because my girlfriend told me that she ran a marathon in Hawaii and this happened to her because it was all downhill and so humid outside so the WHOLE time I was thinking (as my toes were hurting and rubbing on my shoe) oh god, I'm going to lose a nail.
ReplyDeletePoor little toe :( I have yet to lose one of my soldiers yet, but I'm already mentally preparing for when that day comes...
ReplyDeleteHoly Hell - I am terrified of feet. Traumatized does not even sum up how I feel.
ReplyDeleteI do feel your pain though. I lost one of my big toe nails years ago. It took forever to grow back.
=T Does it hurt?? Hrmm .. do they have fake nails for toes? You should paint the skin or something .. hahahaha
ReplyDeleteI found your blog via Pink on the Cheek's Sponsor post...and I'm now your newest follower! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your blog...and I'm so sorry to hear about your dear little toenail :(
Breanna :)

ReplyDeleteHi there! Lauren sent me, so I thought I'd say hi. :) Sorry for your loss...feet kind of freak me out, but I like your polish. Have an awesome day!

It'll grow back, I think. I lose nails every few months or so. Just from wearing shoes, not from running marathons or anything! It's oddly therapeutic to help the nails along on their journey to death ;)
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog and I've literally been laughing for like 10 minutes straight. I'm definitely following, I need this kind of humor in my life!

ReplyDeleteAaaaaaaaah!!!!!
ReplyDeleteps-it'll grow back...just show off your battle scar for now!
Ugh. I feel your pain girl. I always lose a toenail or 3 when training. I hate it. Especially before or during summer when all I want to do is wear flip-flops. But at least "her" absence is a good reminder of the awesome accomplishment!
ReplyDeleteBTW, your blog totally cracks me up. So glad I found it :)
XO - Marion
I hate to say this...but 6 months or so :( But maybe yours will grow back faster!
ReplyDeleteThis is so sad. Does it hurt?
ReplyDeleteI love that you really just put that out there in all its glory. ;-)
