Tuesday Schmoozday

Hey Guys!
Remember when I told you about the New Year's Blogging Party?

Well, I did it and I wanna tell you all about it!
I was paired up with the lovely Sarah from Sometimes Sarah Writes.

She's pretty awesome and basically lives as far away from me as possible.
Which is not so awesome.
{All together now: "Booooo."}
And just in case you can't tell from my amazing art-skilled map....I'm pointing to Rochester, NY.
See? Far.

Sarah posts some amazing pictures over on her blog
and I highly recommend you head over and check them out.
I was extremely shocked to hear she wasn't using some fancy schmancy pro camera for these shots I saw!
She lives with her Man, whom she refers to as "Stud,"
and it seems like they're having a grand ol' time :)

Yesterday I got her care package in the mail!
And as if getting any package in the mail isn't cool enough,
I saw this inside:

See the background of the picture?
That's a scarf. An uber cute scarf that I immediately put on and didn't take off all day.

Sarah - you're da bomb dot com and THANK YOU!!! :) :)
If you're ever in California, you know who to contact!

Hope you all have a grand day!

Weekend Recap

Such a drastic change in weather from last week, and every bit was appreciated.
I went paddle boarding Saturday in Mission Bay. Didn't fall once!
{Which, let me tell you, was a good thing because that water was ice cold.}

V and I decided to try some place new,
so we went to Roy's Downtown for some Hawaiian Fusion.
I got the salmon, he got the short ribs.
{Just an FYI: His was way better.}

Sunday was spent running what felt like the longest 6 miles of my life,
then up on V-Dizzle's rooftop for the rest of the day,
soaking up the sun and having ourselves a little BBQ.
Um, let me just say my favorite part was watching V make a new friend
with the Man/Boy from Dubai.
{See above picture.}
Man/Boy sure was smitten.
He even pulled up a picture of his new gun on his cell phone to show off to V.
Oh Man/Boy, you silly little....man...boy.

It's the last Monday of January, folks.
Let's make it a good one, shall we?
{I don't know about you, but I think I'm going to need multiple cups of coffee to make it through.}

The day I thought I had a secret admirer..

I got an email this week from UPS.
It looked like this:

What?? Huh?
Important Delivery Information?
And it was addressed to my HOME address,
so I KNOW that it wasn't something I ordered online because I ALWAYS ship to my work address.
{something about getting packages at work always make the day a little better, ya know?}

So then I clicked on the tracking info and this is what I saw:

Okay, now, WHOA.
Hold on a minute.
I don't know anyone that lives in Oregon.
WHO is sending me something?
What could this be???

Then I thought: Well of course!
I have a Secret Admirer!
That HAS to be it.
And, I mean, it's definitely got to be someone that reads my blog.
Because, clearly, with 46 followers, I'm kind of a big deal and I should really be expecting
this kind of star treatment by now.

Wow, this is pretty cool.
I wonder what the gift is!?
I hope it's something really cool.

And there I went...for a few days,
thinking I had a secret stalker admirer from afar.

Until today.
I looked through my previous emails and saw this:

I completely forgot I had ordered a new swimsuit.
And had it shipped to my home address because I didn't think it'd be all that professional
to have swimwear arrive at work.
But, in my defense:
{insert Chandler sarcasm}
Do you SEE how small that tracking number is??

Anyway, short story short.
I'm dumb.
And have the worst memory ever.
And apparently think I'm a lot cooler than I really am.
Aaaaanddd basically downed a large portion of humble pie.

So, that's all.
Happy Thursday.

At least the swimsuit is cute?

Running. Marathon Status.

So as you may or may not know, I've been training for San Diego's Rock n Roll marathon.
It's on June 3rd, 2012.
{Or 130 days from now. But who's counting?}
26.2 miles.
26.2 loooonnnggg miles.

Prior to starting this training, the longest I had ever run in my life, without stopping,
was...oh, about 3 miles?
And that was pushing it.
I'm not a runner, people.
Like, at all.
But I kind of felt like I should do something challenging and rewarding while I still can.
I'm going to be 26 soon!
Okay...so I may still have 6 months before that happens,
but still.
Time's a tickin' and I'm not getting any younger!

V has been by my side every step of the way,
which honestly is the only reason why I'm still even doing this stupid thing.
It has definitely been such a motivation to have someone hold you accountable throughout the week.

We're only up to 8 miles for our long distance days,
and sometimes I get flustered thinking about having to do more than 3 times that distance.
Also, I've just been so tired lately.
I can barely keep my eyes open past 10pm.
All I want to do is nap and rest.
I feel like such a weenie!

But the other day, V sent me something that made me feel a whole lot better about this:

"In a long distance race, everyone gets tired...
The winner is the runner who figures out where to put the tired...
Figures out how to store it away until after the race is over...
Sure, he's tired...
Everyone is...
That's not the point...
The point is to Run."

True that, V-Dizzle.
True that.
It's okay to be tired.
It's part of it. It's a natural thing.
And I will keep on keepin' on till that 26th mile has been run!

So I shall leave you with this...a little running collage over the course of this journey.
{My personal fave is my mean death stare expressing my dislike for having to run on New Year's Day.}

Happy Hump Day!

Flashback Tuesday

I saw this link up (from Mary's blog) and decided to give it a try.
Because, well...
How could I not show you this fantastically awkward photo of me.
At T.J. Maxx.
Trying to model with my friend.
Uh, hi....You're 10. Why are you trying to be "sexy" in little girl pajamas?
Where are your parents?

Link up below!

Mary in Marriedland

Rain, Rain, (don't) go away...

I guess Mother Nature wants to toy with our Southern California emotions.
Because I was quite surprised to be greeted with this yesterday.
(I'm sure I could have prevented that surprise if I ever thought to check the weather, but moving on.)

Since this is quite the rare situation, I guess V wanted to take advantage
because he texted me yesterday saying he was going to make dinner for us.
Tomato soup and "gourmet" grilled cheese.
Gourmet, eh?
And how.
Cheddar, Havarti, and Blue Cheese all in one.
Yum x3.
Two of my favorite things to eat are bread and cheese (no surprise),
so you can imagine my delight...
and slight discomfort after 1 1/2 sandwiches.

Happy Tuesday!

Weekend Recap

My weekend was a barrel o' fun, how 'bout yours?
Saturday morning, I went to Ace Hardware (after deciding on a color for my room in about 35 seconds)
and picked me up some Leisure Green paint.
Then, I got to work and painted myself an accent wall, folks.
From afar, it looks pretty pro-status.
Looking up close is where you can clearly tell I am no where near that status.
Who knew I was supposed to tape every edge?
Who knew I was supposed to take off the light socket covers?
Okay, maybe I did know that but I was just too lazy.
Anyway, once I get some shelves up there, it's going to be the best wall in the room!

I learned a lesson in patience again.
V was supposed to come over "within the hour" on Friday night.
Once the clock told me it had been one hour and 10 minutes,
I started to get impatient (shocker).
And I may or may not have said to him via text:
"You should no longer be allowed to say sentences that involve time."
Then he showed up at my door with really pretty flowers, to which were the reason for his tardiness.
I'm dumb.
He's sweet.
Moving on.

Sunday, before the football shenanigans,
V and I went to Mission Bay and ran 8 miles!
This is a milestone people.
I was so excited when I finished, I couldn't help but pull out my best cheese-stick-eating-pose.
On our way to watch the Patriots/Ravens game (sorry Ravens),
we drove through McDonald's.
Yes, I know...I'm sure I took 10 minutes off my life.
You see those pictures of V with the two Big Macs?
No, that is not a repeat picture of the same Mac.
Those are two separate Macs that he purchased.
All to himself.
How vile!
How disgusting!
The calories!
The shock!
I, on the other hand, was a health junkie in comparison.
I stuck to the two cheeseburger combo meal with medium fries and a diet Coke, thank you very much.

Happy Monday!

TWO "F's": Food & Friday

I'm really into it these days.
I know, I know, aren't we all?
But seriously...I'm reeeallyy into it lately.
And I keep telling myself it's because of all this running I've been doing.
But I'm starting to realize
(with every pound gained)
that running is just the excuse I tell myself to justify all the food I've been scarfing.
When in actuality, somehow I don't think running 4 miles cancel's out
an entire plate of fried potato flautas.
Just a theory.
in my defense,
at least I'm trying to balance it out by drinking the DIET Dr. Pepper (with a side of M&M's).
And that Fudgsicle there?
Yeah, that's the No-Sugar-Added kind.
You see? I'm not really trying.

Maybe I should just be like Roomie and stick to the raw, dried squid diet.
(I just threw up a little in my mouth looking at this picture again.)
I may be half Korean, but I'm not that Korean.

It's Friday...my favorite day of the week.
Such promise ahead.
Too bad the weather will be like this for me in San Diego:
(P.S. I like how weather.com gives suggestions on how to organize my garage)

Although....I guess I should shut my mouth and not complain
when many places in America looks like this right now:

Yeaah...okay, maybe I'm a bit spoiled in the weather department.
So I'm going to stop talking now.
Happy Weekend, Friends!!

Car Thief UPDATE:

My car was NOT stolen last night!
And I attribute it directly to the high-tech note I left on my car window for the thief to read:

I mean...if you were a car thief,
wouldn't YOU be scared off by that?!

Wednesday, January 18, 2012

We've got a situation...

A car (key) thief situation.

Okay. Here's the scoop.
Try to keep up.

Roomie and I park our cars tandem like this:

And frankly, it's a pain in the butt because if she's behind me and I have to leave,
then that means I have to back her car out first,
jump out of her car,
get in my car
back mine out,
get out of my car,
get back in her car,
park her car,
lock her car,
get back in my car,
and finally drive off.
(I made that sound far more dramatic than it really is, I'm sure. But you get the point.)

So, in order to be able to move each other's cars,
we exchanged spare keys to keep in our own cars
in case of times like these.
Hers in mine, and mine in hers.

Until today...

This morning, when I went to move her car, I noticed something.
Her spare key was missing from my car.
Then Roomie noticed that her car had been ransacked.
Papers were strewn about,
glove compartment had been opened,
but nothing was stolen EXCEPT:
MY spare key.

Roomie called the Management office
and found out that Unit 602 ALSO had their car broken into last night.
Nothing was stolen EXCEPT:
Their garage door opener.

Did I mention that I live about a block from a Half-way House?
Just saying...

So basically someone out there has
A) Roomie's car key
B) My car key
C) The opener to our garage

Buuuuttttt....at the end of the day:
I guess this mean's I won't have to go to work tomorrow due to lack of transportation.
(Look at me...always a glass half full kinda gal.)

Yesterday, in the middle of my boring day,
a fun little surprise showed up from the mail man:
My very first Birchbox!
What's a Birchbox, you might be asking?
Well, it's basically the best $10/month investment you'll ever make.

-You know how you love getting packages in the mail? Now you can count on one every month!
-You can fill out a Beauty Profile so they send you things according to YOU.
-It's only $10 bucks. Flat. Give up a Starbucks or two and you're golden.
-These samples aren't chintsy! They're generously sized that actually give you a chance to really use it.
-If you like what you got, you can get discounts through their site for the full size!

Here's what I got this month:

-C.O. Bigelow: Lavender & Peppermint Shampoo & Conditioner
-Jouer Lip Gloss
-Juicy Couture - Viva La Juicy perfume
-Zoya Nail Polish: in Kristen
-Larabar - Mini Bar in Blueberry

Okay, that's all.
I'm done ranting and raving.

Note to Birchbox:
No, you don't sponsor me.
But you should,
because I'm basically the best spokesperson you'll ever find.
You're welcome.

I'm tired and I haven't yet had my coffee...

It's only Tuesday, yet somehow I woke up thinking it was the weekend.
Which probably contributed to my waking up 15 minutes before I needed to be at work.
And if you could see me now, sans make-up and shower, you'd know exactly how I feel.
I attribute this tiredness to all of my training for this upcoming marathon.
I feel like that's all I do.
Run, run, and run some more.
(so how come i haven't lost those 7 pounds??)
I think I need to just realize that, for the next 5 months, until I cross that finish line,
 I will be tired.

Anyway, with that said, I read this article today.
It put a big smile on my face, and I hope it does yours.
It's good. Real good.
And it makes me want to smack myself and stop fretting the small things because they don't matter.
Really...they don't.
Read. Enjoy. And have a fantastic day.

DEAR SUGAR, The Rumpus Advice Column #64: Tiny Beautiful Things

Dear Sugar,
I read your column religiously. I’m 22. From what I can tell by your writing, you’re in your early 40s. My question is short and sweet: what would you tell your 20-something self if you could talk to her now?
Seeking Wisdom

Dear Seeking Wisdom,
Stop worrying about whether you’re fat. You’re not fat. Or rather, you’re sometimes a little bit fat, but who gives a shit? There is nothing more boring and fruitless than a woman lamenting the fact that her stomach is round. Feed yourself. Literally. The sort of people worthy of your love will love you more for this, sweet pea.

In the middle of the night in the middle of your twenties when your best woman friend crawls naked into your bed, straddles you, and says, You should run away from me before I devour you, believe her.

You are not a terrible person for wanting to break up with someone you love. You don’t need a reason to leave. Wanting to leave is enough. Leaving doesn’t mean you’re incapable of real love or that you’ll never love anyone else again. It doesn’t mean you’re morally bankrupt or psychologically demented or a nymphomaniac. It means you wish to change the terms of one particular relationship. That’s all. Be brave enough to break your own heart.

When that really sweet but fucked up gay couple invites you over to their cool apartment to do ecstasy with them, say no.

There are some things you can’t understand yet. Your life will be a great and continuous unfolding. It’s good you’ve worked hard to resolve childhood issues while in your twenties, but understand that what you resolve will need to be resolved again. And again. You will come to know things that can only be known with the wisdom of age and the grace of years. Most of those things will have to do with forgiveness.

One evening you will be rolling around on the wooden floor of your apartment with a man who will tell you he doesn’t have a condom. You will smile in this spunky way that you think is hot and tell him to fuck you anyway. This will be a mistake for which you alone will pay.
Don’t lament so much about how your career is going to turn out. You don’t have a career. You have a life. Do the work. Keep the faith. Be true blue. You are a writer because you write. Keep writing and quit your bitching. Your book has a birthday. You don’t know what it is yet.

You cannot convince people to love you. This is an absolute rule. No one will ever give you love because you want him or her to give it. Real love moves freely in both directions. Don’t waste your time on anything else.

Most things will be okay eventually, but not everything will be. Sometimes you’ll put up a good fight and lose. Sometimes you’ll hold on really hard and realize there is no choice but to let go. Acceptance is a small, quiet room.

One hot afternoon during the era in which you’ve gotten yourself ridiculously tangled up with heroin you will be riding the bus and thinking what a worthless piece of crap you are when a little girl will get on the bus holding the strings of two purple balloons. She’ll offer you one of the balloons, but you won’t take it because you believe you no longer have a right to such tiny beautiful things. You’re wrong. You do.

Your assumptions about the lives of others are in direct relation to your naïve pomposity. Many people you believe to be rich are not rich. Many people you think have it easy worked hard for what they got. Many people who seem to be gliding right along have suffered and are suffering. Many people who appear to you to be old and stupidly saddled down with kids and cars and houses were once every bit as hip and pompous as you.

When you meet a man in the doorway of a Mexican restaurant who later kisses you while explaining that this kiss doesn’t “mean anything” because, much as he likes you, he is not interested in having a relationship with you or anyone right now, just laugh and kiss him back. Your daughter will have his sense of humor. Your son will have his eyes.

The useless days will add up to something. The shitty waitressing jobs. The hours writing in your journal. The long meandering walks. The hours reading poetry and story collections and novels and dead people’s diaries and wondering about sex and God and whether you should shave under your arms or not. These things are your becoming.

One Christmas at the very beginning of your twenties when your mother gives you a warm coat that she saved for months to buy, don’t look at her skeptically after she tells you she thought the coat was perfect for you. Don’t hold it up and say it’s longer than you like your coats to be and too puffy and possibly even too warm. Your mother will be dead by spring. That coat will be the last gift she gave you. You will regret the small thing you didn’t say for the rest of your life.

Say thank you.

I've been MIA

I didn't blog Thursday or Friday,
and I know, I'm sure you've all been worried sick.
Fear not, I have returned.
And if you must know the true reason...
well, not to brag or anything...
but I've sort of become a model. Like Top Model status.
Remember when I became famous from my acting debut here?
Well, Lightspeed Tents was so impressed with my skills that they asked me to come back.
That's right.
Ladies and Gentleman,
let me introduce you to Lightspeed's new Sleeping Pad
coming to a Costco near you!
This bad boy will be on all of the packaging...no big deal.

How natural am I?
Ya know...just sleeping...without a sleeping bag...or blanket...
Because that's how I camp.
Me...such an avid hotel stayer camper.
I'm sure this picture here will convince all Costco customers to purchase this pad.
Wouldn't you??

Happy Monday, friends!

P.S. Thanks for all the new blog lovin', I'm super stoked to hear from you all! Yay for blogging!

My kind of night..

Dinner over some Kick-A mexican food and skinny margaritas with someone I haven't seen for 9 years(!)
(something about reminiscing over past memories for 3 1/2 hours never gets old)

Shying away from my standard dark nail look and switching it up to a pretty pale pink

Using my new Dermalogica hydrating face mask
(this winter dryness is getting highly annoying)

Watching the love tension build between Ross and Rachel
(I don't care what you say, Friends episodes will never get old either)

Going to bed relatively early
(Though that still didn't prevent me from snoozing 40 minutes past my set alarm time)

Have a lovely Wednesday!
I'll be enjoying this today.
Be jealous.

It's only been one year since I started this blog,
and in fact, I didn't really even tell anyone that I was starting it,
except my mom and a few close friends.
It was mostly a way for me to document my little day-to-days so I wouldn't forget
(those who know me well, know I have the world's worst memory),
so this little online journal was a great solution to lock up those memories!
I'm still not yet to the point where I'm ready to shout the existence of this blog from a mountain top;
maybe because I feel like no one would really care.
But that shouldn't be the point.
I write here for me (and you mom ;) ha),
and that's the great thing about blogging.
You're free to write about whatever you want, whenever you want.
You don't have to be a writer, photographer, or have a creative bone in your body.
Because Zeus knows I'm not any of those.

Anyway, point is.
I'd like to continue with this little blog of mine
and as the year has gone by, I've been able to "meet" other bloggers too.
That's been pretty cool, and I'd like to continue to connect with others.
With that said.
This year, I'm going to make more of an effort to connect with other people
through this blog.

First, I came across this:

and also this:

{info here}

I encourage you guys to join too!
It could be fun and a great way to connect!

Happy Tuesday, ya'll!

(I don't know where all of these cowboy references are coming from...
If you can remember from this post, cowboys and Asians don't really mesh well together.)

Yoga Video

I'm loving this video.
Aside from her amazing skills that I oh-so-wish I had,
I love the artistic placement and capture of the video.
Very neat.
I think I'll watch it again.

Weekend Recap...The Getty n stuff

Happy Monday, ya'll.
First full week of work in the new year.
::Deep breath::
We can do this.

This past weekend, Verner and I visited the Getty Museum up in L.A.
We even got all Asian/touristy and rented the little headsets that told you info about each exhibit.
Overall Thoughts
Beautiful? Yes.
Worth the 2 1/2 hours of traffic? Eh.
Was the architectural design of the museum sort of better than the actual art? I would say so.
Though L.A. traffic always sucks big ones, the drive was far more bearable with a bit of this goodness:

Here are a few pictures from The Getty.

I'm real mature. I know.

After the Getty, we went to The Grove for some grub.
I used to work at The Grove back in my college days,
so it was nice to visit again.
We ate at Wood Ranch for literally the best "upscale" BBQ of my life.
Or any BBQ for that matter.

Since Saturday was such a jam-packed, tiring day,
Sunday was spent doing a lot of this
(which, in my opinion, was my favorite part of the weekend):

Have a great Monday!

Chicken Parm and Haze

I woke up this morning and couldn't remember all the pieces of my night.

I remember making Chicken Parmesan (for the first time ever, mind you).
I remember V-Dizz thinking it was the bomb dot com (of course bc I'm a pro now. obvi.).
Good thing he didn't eat the uncooked pink spots that I saw in mine. True story. But let's just forget about that part.

I remember purchasing tickets to Korea for Brother's wedding in May -
Super stoked bc V-Dizzle is coming with me!
Got a really good deal too, for only $941.
Homeland, here I come!
And hopefully more of this guy.

I remember watching stand-up comedian Kevin Hart on Netflix, but I don't remember what he was talking about. I just remember thinking he was hilarious.

Then I remember all of a sudden being in bed watching V-Dizz plug my iPhone in for me.
I don't know how I got to bed.
And I must have fallen asleep immediately after that because that's my last memory.

Then it hit me.
That $6.99 special at the grocery store for the bottle of Petit Sirah.
And I'm not talking that joke-size of a bottle that can be finished off in two glasses,
I'm talking the large and in charge bottle.
The sight of the last drop being poured flashed before my eyes as I was laying there in bed this morning.

Then I got a bit concerned.
It's not like I was stumble-around-drunk.
But for some reason, there are parts missing of my night and only flashes of moments.
Is this what ageing feels like?
I can't throw back a bottle like I used to?
From mere wine, I have spots in my memory?
Maybe it's time I stick to the smaller, "classier" size going forward.
If not for anything but to preserve my youthful memories.

Anyway....... it's Friday!
I hope you all have lovely weekends that you can remember.

Thursday, January 5, 2012

Yesterday was kind of a rough day for me.
It didn't start out so well and it seemed to quickly decline from there.
I'm talking, spent my lunch break in tears kind of decline.
Let's just blame it on girly hormones and move on.
Anyway, after a quick run (ha! I'm still not used to saying that),
things got better. Much better.
Like, I got to sit at the kitchen counter and watch The Bachelor
while V-Dizzle slaved away for an hour and a half making me
awesome MeHican food.
How could I not feel better with that?

Happy Thursday, Friends!
