When I Was Little...

I wanted to be famous.
Like Movie Star famous.
I was always actin' a fool.
Being "look-at-me" loud.
Singing at the top of my lungs.
Jumping in front of any camera at any time.

When I got to Junior High, my friends and I would always make movies.
I begged my dad to buy me a video camera, and voila: Home-made Movie Star.
When I got to High School, I joined the Drama Team.
In a school of literally 80 kids, it was kind of a big deal to me.

I even went so far as to get an agent (x2).
One in San Diego.
One in Los Angeles.
My poor mother driving me back and forth from auditions,
as I confidently thought: "This will be the one, I know it!"

When I got to college (in L.A.), I thought,
"This is it! I'm finally going to make it!"
I mean, obviously now that I'm living in L.A., it's got to happen.
Needless to say, obviously it didn't.
I did some student films,
quickly realized everyone and their mother wanted to be famous,
and decided to pursue a "real job."

Well, ladies and gentleman,
little did I know that being a career woman,
I could also, finally, have my big movie debut.
Please, sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.

I've made it everyone.
I'm going to be famous.

Please, click HERE to witness the award winning performance.

Oh, and....You're welcome.

I'm kind of a big deal

Yesterday, at work, I got this lovely envelope in the mail:

I love stickers and I love sparkly things.
So this immediately made me smile.
Then, I opened it...
Please note the MISSPELLING of my last name.

This lady is about 85 years old.
Bless her little heart...and her little poems.

Happy Tuesday!
xoxo

Oh and special shout out to: Rowdy Matt
After much harassment on my end, he finally became a "Follower."
He is now cool.
Don't YOU want to be cool too?
Yes, YOU, who reads my blog regularly,
but has commitment issues, clearly.
If you want to be cool...just go ahead and click that "Follow" button.
K, thanks.

Monday...Again?

This may or may not have been the theme for my Saturday night..

Roomie, Bri, and I had ourselves a grand time in good ol' El Lay over the weekend.

We went shopping on Melrose...
(Never disappoints in the entertainment factor)

I bought a man's $26 Subway lunch when his card didn't work after 324 swipes through the machine...
First of all, why couldn't the lady enter it in manually?
Second of all, how does one spend $26 at Subway?
Needless to say...
He told me I was the nicest person in the world.
What can I say, I'm basically a saint.

Had dinner at Katsuya on Saturday night.
Really great Japanese food.
Fancy Schmancy type place.
They even had an overly tan, reaks of Hollywood, door man.
He acted like he owned the place as he stared each customer down upon entering.
Buddy, you're a door man slash wannabe actor.
Let's move on.

Roomie and I met Bri's new boyfriend, David.
We approve.
But if I have to see one more butt grab between them,
I just may vomit.

After Roomie and I got home, I went to see "V."
We went and saw "Rising of the Planet of the Apes."
Based on this picture alone, I'm sure you can understand when I say
it wasn't anything award winning.

It was, however, a great excuse to cuddle and hold hands for 2 hours.
No complaints here..

Hope you all had great weekends.
Let's get through this Monday quickly, shall we?

It's the freakin' weekend...

Roomie and I are off to
The City of Angels
aka
El Lay
aka
Los Angeles

Way back in the day, Roomie and I used to live in this crazy city.

We both lived at the Metropolitan apartments,
right across the street from school in Downtown L.A.
She was on the 3rd floor. I was on the 8th.

We had some grand ol' times there that I'll never forget.
(which is pretty big for me seeing as I have a horrible memory)

Since graduating in 2006, I have only been back a handful of times.

ERGO...I am looking forward to going back to my old stomping grounds
and creating a few more memories with Roomie.

Happy Weekend, Friends!!
Hope you make it a great one!
I'm sure I'll be coming back with some crazy stories for ya.. ;)

Posture

Everyone, meet Fasha:

He's a Korean gem.
He's also my Posture Nazi.
Let me explain:

My Dad moved to America when he was 21 years old (or was it 20?).
He studied fervently and became a very successful Chiropractor.
He has been the source of all my knowledge around health and well-being.

The other day, after an adjustment, he told me this:

"Shella, if you don't start standing up straight now, you'll soon look like this:"

Then he says, "You know, I have yet to see a patient come in
who has had a breast augmentation with good posture."

"It makes sense. Now that you have all that extra weight in the front...
it really drags you down."

Then he proceeds to grab at his chest and pull himself down
while imitating me walking.

"Shella...when you walk, keep your shoulders back!
Make sure your ears are aligned with your shoulders!
Stand tall!"

Thanks, Dad.
What would I do if I didn't have you in my life???

Probably something like this:

Picture This

I've been really interested in photography lately.
And when I say interested, I mean:
"Ooh that picture looks amazing, I wish I could do something like that."
I have zero experience and zero knowledge.
But how amazing would it be to capture something like this:

Or this:

My friend JP asked me what my short-term and long-term goals are for getting a camera.

Short-term: A hobby and something fun to do
Long-term: A hobby and something fun to do

I'm not looking to be a professional nor do I think I have the talent for it.
But, I keep thinking about it and how great photography is
and how much I'd like to learn about that world.

So.
Which camera to get?
Nothing extravagant,
but something to get the job done.

Cannon EOS Rebel T3i??
$849

Canon EOS Rebel T3i Digital Camera Kit

Nikon D3100 Digital SLR??
$500-650

Any of you "Camera Connoisseurs" have suggestions for me?

Happy Tuesday!

Weekend Highlights

Happy Monday, Friends!
Special shout-out to The Vickster...
It's her 30th Birthday today!
Happy Birthday, friend!! =)

How was everyone's weekend?
Mine had some key highlights that were quite enjoyable.
Please...allow me:

Friday night, "V" took me out Downtown.
It was a lovely evening,
strolling hand-in-hand in comfortable silence.
When all of a sudden,
this, for-lack-of-a-better-word, homeless man
approached us and began singing this epic song
while staring directly into my eyes.
Please take note, it can be quite difficult
looking someone else in the eyes
when you're not quite sure which eye to look at:

You feel me? Moving on.

(You can go ahead and sing this song to any tune, it's really the words that count)

"I want to give you the world,
so I'll get a butter knife and go grab the earth.
I'll take the butter knife and slice the earth in half.
Put one half on your lap and one half on my back.
If you want more of the world,
I'll take the butter knife and slice you off a piece."

I applauded and told him that was very sweet.
He asked for money.
We didn't have any.
He asked for food.
Conveniently, we were right outside of this classy joint:

So, I said: "SURE!! Come on in!!!"
"V" grabs him a sandwich.
To which the pro singer says, "Can I have some chips too?"
Me: "SURE!!!"
A drink?
Me: "SURE!!! How about some dessert???"
"V" gave me a look that said:
"Please don't offer this man any more food."
After we completed our good deed of the night,
we continued on our way,
occasionally singing back the award winning ditty.

I hope you have a great Monday.
I shall leave you with this:

Fasha flew in to the San Diego airport yesterday.
He asked if I could pick him up.
Sure, Dad, no prob.
After telling me exactly where he's standing via the phone,
(Alaskan Airlines, terminal 2, by the "bridge")
he then felt the need to text me

Indeed.... wearing a hat he was:

Good thing he told me.
Doubt I would have found him otherwise.

American Red Cross

did you know only 8% of americans donate blood?
i know this because roberto told me.
and he's been in the biz for 10 years now.
so it has to be true.

i try to give blood every few months.
but realized i hadn't been since september of last year.
shame on me.

it's a simple process, really.
first, they take you behind a little sectional
and prick your finger to test your iron levels,
take your blood pressure and temperature,
and verify your information.

then they have you sit at the computer to answer some questions.
questions like:
"in the last 12 months, have you had sex with a man
who has also had sex with a man?"
fortunately, i passed that test.

when you're done with that, they take you to the table to prep.
they make a couple of marks to guide them,
then they clean you up with iodine...

then...there's about .2 seconds where i panic
right before they stick the needle in.
and though i've done this a handful of times,
i still always have to ask,
"is this going to hurt? should i look?"
before i have time to blink or decide to look,
it's done.
then i remember it's really not that big of a deal.

it can take anywhere from 4-15 minutes to fill the pint bag.
mine took 9.
i asked ricardo how soon my "A positive" blood would be used by someone.
he said two days!
he also said the average person who needs a blood transfusion
needs about 5-8 pints.
if only 8% of americans donate 1 pint every 2 months....
well.
you do the math.

i vow to not let an entire year go by before i donate again.
i honestly didn't know blood supply was in such high demand.
now i do.
and i encourage you to go donate too!

Memory Lane

Last night, my friend JP cooked me dinner
as a belated birthday thing-a-ling.

Salmon and brown rice with squash and zucchini:

Upon my new-found promise to try new things:
I've discovered that I actually like squash and zucchini.
(This whole "turning 25 thing" has really matured me, I know.)

JP and I have known each other since we were 16.
When we first met, our Junior year of High School,
there was instant attraction.
We "dated" for about 3 months (if you can even call it that),
then realized we were better off as friends.
Almost 9 years later, here we are, still great friends.

He was showing me some pictures of us back in the day.
I couldn't believe it!
Attraction?
With THAT?!
Yikes.

My how we have grown!
Let's take another look at Little Michelle
(who, btw, thought she was the Bomb Dot Com):

Look at that sly smile.
That stylish black plastic necklace.
Gosh...who could resist?!

I am thankful for good food and good friends.
But more importantly,
I am thankful I grew out of that awkward stage (...or have I?)

Have a lovely Thursday, uurrbody <---(Gangsta way of saying "everybody")

My Weekend..

Good Morning, lovelies...
Normally, on a cloudy Monday like today,
one could call me Grumpy McGrumperson.
However, despite the 6am wake-up this morning,
a lost debit card over the weekend,
and realizing I've somehow managed to spend $700 on my AMEX,
I'm quite chipper.

Lemme show ya:

This here toothbrush sings.
As I brush my teeth.
Justin Bieber.
Not only ONE, but TWO songs.
Pretty sure this is the coolest b-day present.
Ever.
(Thanks, Bri!!)

Saturday night, Bri came in from Chicago to see me and Roomie.
We hit the town and had a grand ol' time.

Yesterday, we decided to go to Pacific Beach
and have a little Sunday Funday.
Funday it was.
We started at Firehouse
and had Caesar Salads and cocktails on their rooftop

I feel as though I wear this dress a lot.

Then we headed over to BeachWood to continue the Sunday Funday festivities.

Though this weekend consisted of regrettable late-night Mexican food (x2),
I must say, it was a lot of fun.
Though I had an awkward run in with a friend of (ex)boyfriend's at BeachWood,
I didn't let that stop my wheel o' laughters.

...and I was quite lucky that Bri's Pitbull, Charlie,
decided to have massive diarrhea in Roomie's room and not mine.
Thanks, Charlie.
Sorry, Roomie.

Happy Monday!

Happy Friday!

It's the weekend....Time to Dance!!

Coffee Addict

I ran a little late getting to work this morning.
So I decided to be responsible and not stop by Starbucks to avoid being extra late.
I told myself I didn't need the coffee.
I could get through one morning without it.
No. Big. Deal.
.............

I made it till 9:45am.
Then the twitching began, along with the slow rocks back and forth and glazed look in my eye.
All I could think about was that sweet, sweet liquid.
And how I needed it.
Now.
(I'm not saying I'm proud of this. Blame Starbucks)

I then, like a crazy person, went in search of some coffee.
All I could find was:
Green Tea (no, thanks)
Decaf (What the...)
and some gross Mud Slide crap.

I THEN walked across the street to this mediocre coffee shop,
only to find they had been shut down.
With a tear in my eye, I resorted to walking down the hall
to complain about my coffee woes to my friend Vickster.
She graciously made me coffee the old fashioned way.
In a pot.
Coffee grinds and all.
I was impressed.

Basically what I'm trying to say here is:
Vickster...You saved my life.
And for that...I thank you.
Starbucks...I love you.
Let's never break-up.

Date Night

"V" invited me over last night for a little Datey McDate Night.
He said he would pick up some food and wine,
then we could have a little relaxin' in his rooftop hot tub.

Sign me up!

Some of you know that Mish is a wee-bit picky when it comes to food.
So before I left for "V's" I ate a piece of whole wheat pita bread and hummus.
You know...just in case I hate what he gets.
He texted me: "Do you like Chinese?"
Sure, Chinese is a good Go-To....
Right?
WRONG.
Please tell me how in the world someone thinks "Chinese food" then gets THIS:

I tried my hardest to disguise my disgust and not vomit all over his kitchen counter.
What are those?!
Giant shrimp?
"Prawns," he says.
Prawns?!
Are those LEGS??
Oh my...
I gave a small forced smile and said,
"Oh! Well...I've never had prawns before...This should be...interesting!"
Ladies and gentleman....I am proud to announce:
Mish ate PRAWNS last night and did NOT throw up all over his kitchen counter.
Verdict?
Not BAD.
Am I going to rush to the nearest Chinese restaurant today at lunch
so I can order some more prawns?
No.
But am I proud of myself for trying something new?
Yes.

Oh, and to top it all off,
I got this lovely present on my car this morning:

Thanks, San Diego!!

xoxo
